Steve Spurrier, Jr.

Steve Spurrier, Jr. is no longer a candidate to become the next head coach of CCU football.

Coastal’s plan to hire Steve Spurrier, Jr. has fallen through – and all I can say is, praise the Lord.  Someone like Spurrier Jr. is exactly want we do not want as our next head coach, because we would need another inside of five years – either because he does well and leaves the program or because he doesn’t do well and we fire him.  Coastal needs a coach for the long haul.  Another Gamecock assistant coach, Shawn Elliott, has also pulled his name from consideration.

So as of right now, there are five names going around for the head coaching position: Kerwin Bell (Jacksonville University Head Coach),  Chris Cosh (Kansas St. Defensive Coordinator), Todd Fitch (South Florida Offensive Coordinator), Chuck Reedy (Goose Creek High School Head Coach), and Dale Steele (Campbell University Head Coach).

I will be doing a series of blogs, looking at each of these candidates for the positions one at a time.  CCU AD Hunter Yurachek has said he wanted to have someone hired by the first of the year, so hopefully I’ll get this series done before they announce the new head coach. Stay tuned!

My God…none of those coaches look good.  But then again, we’re Coastal Carolina.  Next coach will probably be a high school coach.

Chalk this up as another idiot who thinks we’re not going to get a coach who’s wanting to use this as a stepping stone. That’s how this profession works. You always try to find a job better than where you’re at.

We already had a coach who wasn’t using this job has a stepping stone.  It really wasn’t that long ago about a week.

Might want to proofread before you post an article.

You definitely do not want Todd Fitch. I went through years with him at ECU. Look at both of out championships. They came from defense. Offense was terrible.

Chuck Amato would be great. He could get some of the boosters that he got in Raleigh and bring them to us from this area. And I don’t think he would take the job to get a better job he is at the end of his career and would be a perfect fit. He did a great job at NC STATE and is a great recruiter. He will put us on the map instantly
