Coastal defeats CSU

The Chanticleers defeated the Buccaneers 45-38 to finish 3-3 in the Big South and improve to 6-4 overall on the season.  The Chants were down 31-24 at the end of three quarters before ripping off 21 unanswered points.  After Charleston Southern cut the lead to 45-38 and got the ball back, they drove down to the Coastal 24. Then, Phillip George came up with the play of the game - an INT to clinch it for Coastal.

Aramis Hillary played great, throwing for 3 TDs  and running for another. Marcus Whitener came up with 106 yards rushing on only 13 carries, and Travis Small had another 75 yards rushing along with a TD.  Senior WR Jamie Childers came up big receiving, with 4 catches for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns.  On the defensive side – beside George’s big INT, Coastal forced 3 more turnovers including turnovers on 2 of the last 3 possessions for the Bucs.  Despite giving up almost 400 yards passing on the day, the defense made big plays when big plays were needed and preserved the win for Coastal.

Next up for the Chanticleers is the Western Carolina Catamounts.  The Catamounts come out of the Southern Conference, where they failed to win a single conference game (0-8) and are only 1-9 on the season.  This will be Coastal’s last game and 7-4 has always seemed much better than 6-5 to me.  Go Coastal!
